Microsoft Office Specialist Certification Program
Santa Ana College is proud to be a partner with Microsoft in offering the Microsoft Office Specialist program. Santa Ana College/Business Applications & Technology Department is an official testing site for Microsoft Office Specialist certification testing.
The Microsoft Office Specialist program is a training and certification program that verifies a user’s desktop computer skills using the Microsoft Office applications. Upon successful completion of a hands-on exam, the user is issued a certificate by Microsoft Corporation. The Microsoft Office Specialist program is available for the Microsoft Office 2007 and 2010 applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and Outlook. This testing program is available to students and community members.
In addition to validating your knowledge and proficiency, the program gives you a competitive edge in the job market. About 90 percent of the Fortune 500 companies use Microsoft Office products—so chances are very good that you are one of the many people using Office to get your work done. How can Santa Ana College help you to become a Microsoft Office Specialist?
As noted above Santa Ana College/Business Applications & Technology Department is an official testing site for the Microsoft Office Specialist exams. Students and community members can sign up to take a test in the Business Division office, Chavez building, A103. Buy a Voucher First
Before you take the test you must purchase a voucher at the SAC bookstore for each exam you wish to take. Check the SAC bookstore for pricing. These vouchers may include a free retake if you do not pass on the first try. Many employers pay the fee for their employees to take the exams.
How can you prepare for the tests?
You can practice taking the Microsoft Office Specialist tests by registering for .5 units of Business Applications 016, Computer Office Modules. This class meets in room A228 where there is a Microsoft Office Specialist practice program available. If you complete 4 testing sessions with a grade of 70% or higher you earn .5 unit of credit. The hours for this class vary. Check the class schedule for current hours. If the currently listed hours do not fit your schedule contact the instructor to make arrangements to access these practice programs at your convenience.
The Business Applications & Technology Department also offers a Microsoft Office Specialist Certification Preparation class (Business Applications 043). This class is offered each semester. Check the class schedule for time and dates. This class can be taken to prepare for any of the Microsoft Office Specialist exams. Students who register for this class should already be familiar with the particular program for which they want to take the exam. Practice tests and instructor coaching will be available in this class. You receive .5 units of credit when you complete four practice tests.

The Business Applications & Technology Department offers classes in all of the Microsoft Office Suite applications. Classes range from 8 to 16 weeks in length. Public Service Institute (PSI) classes are offered in all of the Microsoft Office Suite applications. These classes are 4 to 8 hours in length. Call (714) 564-6763 for a schedule and additional information.

How do you decide which test to take?
The Office 2007 and 2010 version tests include: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook. These are availabe at a beginning level for basic users. At the Expert level tests include Word and Excel.
What are the tests like?
The tests are not written tests. They are hands-on real-world assignments based on the way you actually use your computer. The test runs along with Microsoft Office and provides you with tasks to perform on a real document. You work at your own pace, but you do have a time limit. Most exams can be completed in less than an hour. You receive your score upon completion of the test.
